College Football: Halfway Point 2013

We are halfway through the college football season and a few surprises have stunned and even shocked many fans and analysts. For example, no one expected Fresno State to beat Boise State and some teams like Georgia, Stanford, and even Florida to stumbled early. Ohio State, Oregon, and Clemson have earned the right to be in the top three spots and Alabama has not been impressive this season because they have not had big wins and are awful on offense as well as defense.

For the second half of the season, look for Alabama to falter and lose its chances at a national championship. Meanwhile, Fresno State will be the next non-BCS buster for the little guys. Also, Oregon will have tough match ups as well as Ohio State, but both teams are capable of meeting in Pasadena for all the marbles. Watch the second half of the season and enjoy.

Please comment on these predictions because I want hear your thoughts about this season.

Kickoff getting closer

The 2013 College Football Season is getting closer. This year should be a really challenging one for all conferences, especially the SEC because all the other major conferences will be coming after them to take the crystal ball away from them in the national championship. Some big programs will have a shot, but they have to prove to themselves and the nation that they are worthy of playing in the national championship.

Also, the little guys have a chance to spoil the party for the big boys by defeating national contenders and making a name for themselves and getting national notoriety to expand their fan-base.

Please comment on this post. I would like to hear your responses about the upcoming season.

2013 College Football Season- BCS-Buster

Most ESPN analyst say that last year's BCS-Buster, Northern Illinois will be the same team to get into the BCS again. However, there are other teams who are capable of being the next or a repeat BCS-Buster.

One team that should always be taken into consideration is Boise State because for the last few years, they have cemented themselves as an elite football power that can shake up the polls, but also cause chaos in the bigger conferences. For example, the Broncos have beaten teams like Oregon (twice), Virginia Tech, Georgia, and the team most people recognize; Oklahoma. Therefore, Boise State can be a contender as long as they win the Mountain West Conference out right.

Another team that should be taken seriously is San Diego State from the Mountain West because they are the one team that is knocking on the door just waiting to crash the party. The Aztecs have been competitive for the past two years, but haven't played any team of a high caliber. In order for San Diego State to get into the BCS, they must expand their competition to the bigger conferences in college football.

Last, but not least, Colorado State could be the next BCS-Buster because they have made some big improvements from last season with the coaching staff. Getting the offensive coordinator from Alabama, the Rams have a coach with good offensive knowledge which will help them get points on the scoreboard along with a talented defense which will get the offense back on the field. However, Colorado State must get better at winning conference games within the Mountain West and expand games with bigger conferences such as playing Alabama this coming season. Therefore, the Rams have a few holes to fill and they will become a contender in the Mountain West.

Please comment on this post. I really want to hear your opinions about these possible BCS-Busters.

MLB All-Star Game: Who Wins and Why

The MLB All-Star game is coming up shortly in July, but I think the National League will have their work cut out for them as they challenge the American League. Odds are in favor of the NL which I believe will win because over the last few years, the NL has produced a lot of talent from pitchers, batters, and teams. For example, the Giants and the Cardinals have taken the last three World Series trophies from the Rangers and Tigers who are in the AL by playing good defense and aggressive offense. Therefore, the NL should have an easy All-Star game based on the talent chart and have home-field advantage throughout the World Series.

Hawaii to have official nickname

According to FOXSPORTS.COM, Hawaii's nickname will be officially be the "Rainbow Warriors." The athletic department has been contemplating about using the original nickname because for the past few years the university has used the nickname: "Warriors" to avoid a controversy between men and women athletics. Therefore, the department decided to use the original nickname from the late 1900s.

Please comment on this post. I would like to hear your opinions about Hawaii's nickname.

Big Ten to rename Divisions

According to ESPN.com, the Big Ten is considering renaming its Division names from Leaders and Legends to East and West starting in 2014 when Maryland and Rutgers join the conference. The Big Ten has had some criticism from its division names when the conference expanded to twelve teams. However, the conference feels that having the divisions renamed to East and West will be a lot easier and less speculation about the teams and universities long histories.

Therefore, having the conference rename its divisions is a wise move for the Big Ten.

Please comment on this post. I want to hear your reactions about the renaming and possible realignment of the Big Ten.

Cowboys' Stadium home for BCS national championship

When the original BCS format is completed after this upcoming season, college football will have the national championship at Cowboys' Stadium following the new playoff format for 2014-2015 season. This will be the first time in over a decade that the Cotton Bowl will be hosting a national championship game in a new stadium. Therefore, this will be exciting for college football fans to experience the title game in the new Cowboys' Stadium, but it depends on how the playoff games turn out for teams.

Ohio State and TCU to play in the future

Both TCU and Ohio State will have a home-to-home series beginning in 2018-2019. Both schools have played each other before, but the expectation are different. TCU is looking forward to challenging a Big Ten team that has a lot of national attention because if the Horned Frogs can play with and possibly beat the Buckeyes, then they will prove to themselves and the nation that they can be a national championship contender.

On the other hand, Ohio State is looking to be recognized at the heart and soul of the Big Ten conference and be the team to compete with any Big 12 opponent and win in front of a national audience. Therefore, this matchup will be a wonderful one to watch and be one of the most exciting games for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Please comment on this post. I really want to hear your opinions about this great matchup.

Boise State to keep blue uniforms

On ESPN.com, Boise State will be able to keep their blue uniforms for home football games. This is a huge victory for the Broncos because they have for many years worn the blue uniforms and have not had any complaints from opposing teams or from the NCAA. However, a few weeks ago, the NCAA started to question whether Boise State was cheating by "camouflaging" themselves among the blue turf.

The NCAA did not find any evidence of "camouflaging" the Bronco players on the field. Therefore, Boise State can continue to wear the blue uniforms for home games. I think this is great for the Broncos because if teams want to beat Boise State, they have to be ready to play the game and not complain about the color uniforms the Broncos wear for home.

Boise State vs. Florida State in the future

According to ESPN.com, Boise State and Florida State will play each other in the future. This is a great deal for college football because the Broncos have been a legitimate contender against the BCS conferences for the last few years including the 2007 Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma. Also, the Seminoles are starting to return to their national spotlight after defeating Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl. Therefore, this game will be a big media buzz when they will start a series between each other for a couple of years. Personally, I would like to see Boise State challenge Ohio State for a nonconference game, but who knows if that will happen.

However, this news is great for both schools and for any general college football fan who enjoys watching the regular season and the bowl games.

Big East makes deal with ESPN

On ESPN.com, the Big East finalized a $130 million deal to continue their coverage of some athletic programs. However, Cincinnati is still looking for another conference to join in the future. Personally, this whole TV deal with ESPN will help the Big East in the short run, but I think it will be in trouble because the conference doesn't have legitimate teams to compete with the other conferences, especially in football.

While Cincinnati is looking to join the ACC, they might want to consider the Big Ten because of geographic location and the Big Ten has more to offer with coverage and money. Therefore, this deal is good for the Big East, but they should have taken the $1.17 billion deal five years ago. If they took that money at that time, then the conference probably would not have lost some members.

Please comment on this post. I really want to hear your opinions about the constant changes for the Big East.

Boise State's blue uniforms

On FOXSPORTS.COM, Boise State maybe forced to wear an alternate uniform at home because the NCAA is making a rule for teams to not "camouflage" themselves if their teams colors match the color of the football field. I think this rule is silly because if someone wants to win at Boise State, no matter what color uniforms they're wearing, the visiting team must play better than Boise State. Therefore, the NCAA should not make this a rule for Boise State, but simply let the teams play the game no matter what color uniforms the teams are wearing.

Please comment on this post. I really want to hear your opinions about these possible changes to college football.

Nebraska Colorado rivalry renewed

Nebraska and Colorado will renew their college football rivalry in 2018. This is good college football because former Big 12 members will be playing each other, but from different conferences (Big Ten and Pac 12) which will have national implications concerning the race for the national championship. Nebraska should have the edge because of the recruiting class they run and the kinds of athletes they bring in from within the state of Nebraska.

Please comment on this posting. I would like to hear your opinions.

The Super Bowl 47 Blackout

At the beginning of the second half of Super Bowl 47, the Superdome experienced a blackout for thirty-four minutes. When the game was over, the Baltimore Ravens were planning on suing the city of New Orleans for the blackout because they were complaining that it may have cost them the game.

My first reaction to seeing the blackout was terrifying because I thought somebody or something was attacking the stadium. In other words, the safety of all the people in the Superdome was my primary concern and thankfully there wasn't an attack on the stadium. Therefore, the Ravens should stop whining and move on to next year.

Please comment on this unknown event that occurred in New Orleans. I would like to hear your reactions.

The Big 12 Conference needs a conference championship

On ESPN.com, the Big 12 is trying to establish a conference championship game with the ten teams they currently have in the conference. Due to the TV contracts they have, each school is receiving even amounts of money throughout the conference. Commissioner Bowlsby want the NCAA to allow the Big 12 to have a conference championship game because of the conference tie between Kansas State and Oklahoma last year (K-State receiving the automatic bid to the BCS due to the head-to-head win over OU).

However, I think the conference should ask for two more schools to join the conference because they can use the North and South divisions they previously had a few years ago. Therefore, the Big 12 can be officially known as the Big 12 by having two more members.

Please comment on this post. I really want to hear your opinions about the whole conference realignment in college football.

The Future of the Big East in 2014

On the ESPN app, college athletic conference; Big East is planning on a twelfth member. However, I think the conference may not survive even with the twelfth member because Syracuse and Pittsburgh, two founding members of the Big East are leaving for the ACC conference after the 2013 college football season.

In order for the Big East to survive, especially in football is for teams like Louisville and Cincinnati to stay in the conference because based off what I have seen from last season Louisville and Cincinnati are really the only two teams to carry the banner for the Big East. Also, the team that should join the Big East in football to solidify the conference is Villinova because they are already a powerhouse in men's basketball. To find out more about the Big East, check out your ESPN app on your Smart Phones or Windows Phones.

Please comment on what you think about this post. I would really like to hear your opinions.

The NFL Pro Bowl should have big impact on League

Last night's Pro Bowl was a joke considering the score was 62(NFC) to 35(AFC). Also, Al Micheals and Chris Collinsworth spoke about the Pro Bowl and that the Commissioner of the NFL; Roger Goodell was going to pull the plug on the game because last year's Pro Bowl was considered a joke to general sports fans. Personally, I think the game should be played in the middle of the regular season like Major League Baseball, but whoever wins the game, that conference should have home field advantage in the Super Bowl.

For example, this years Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens should be played at the 49ers football field and not at the Superdome in New Orleans because the NFC defeated the AFC in the Pro Bowl. Therefore, the Pro Bowl should have bigger implications and drama for the right of any conference team to host the Super Bowl in their hometown.

Please comment on this posting. I would really like to hear the opinions of other sports fans.
