COMM 337- Georgia Bulldogs bumped to No. 3

Chip Towers reported that in college football, the Georgia Bulldogs who were ranked number one at the beginning of the regular season are now ranked at number three with USC at number one and Oklahoma at number two. The way Towers reported the story was that he spoke to the head coach of the Bulldogs, Mark Richt along with Ralph Russo who is a college football writer for The Associated Press. He asked simple questions that Richt could answer and Richt simply told him that Bulldog fans should not be worried because the team still has many games left in the regular season in which they could jump back into first place.

Russo provided Towers with examples about other teams that were ranked number one, but then dropped to number three. Russo also told Towers that there is plenty of time for the fans to vote for the Bulldogs to be number one at the end of the regular season.

COMM 337- Obama and McCain Speeches

After reading both speeches, Obama's speech was better than McCain's because Milbank used important examples that referred to human history. For example, Milbank included how Obama referred to the Legend of Troy as well as Greek Mythology. Also, Obama's speech had a lot on how he was going to develop a health care plan and pull U.S. troops out of Iraq.

On the other hand, McCain's speech didn't not sound trustworthy because the writer of the article made McCain's image as a "cowboy." Basically, the writer only included material that would fit McCain's background. Therefore, Obama's campaign speech had a greater positive outcome than McCain's speech.

COMM 337 Discussion Questions- Answers

1. Reporters come across something unexpected in a story (Murray); I think it is something that happens without any suspicion.

2. It reveals a new plot to a storyline or it could be additional information that provides more detail to a story.

3. The relationship between reporting and writing is that they both involve a story which is written into words, uses many facts, and described by many perspectives.

4. You look for what isn't at an event as much as what is at an event.

5. Murray means that craft is a special skill for a person. I think craft can be a special skill, but also a special kit for what job a person has skills at. The difference between craft and art is that craft is a skill and art is human creativity.

6. The relationship between craft reporting and writing is that reporting has the five w's and gives a distinct story. As for craft writing, it makes the writer write important information, facts, and details of the event.

Procedure on how to walk and breathe at the same time

The procedure on how to walk and breathe at the same time has a few steps. These steps are very simple for a person to follow and achieve. Therefore, this procedure will be easy for anyone who walks for exercise.
First, a person must use his or her own legs to move forward in order to start walking. While walking, he or she must swing their arms in order to get circulation through the blood veins in order to get oxygen to the lungs which will provide energy for the heart and brain.
Next, he or she must inhale oxygen in order to breathe and get his or her lungs functioning while performing the activity. Then, he or she must exhale carbon dioxide in order to inhale more oxygen to keep the flow of circulation going as an endless cycle while walking.
Finally, he or she needs to maintain a pace that he or she is comfortable with in order to keep walking forward and not stopping. Walking with his or her own pace will make him or her perform walking and breathing at the same time because he or she does not need to worry about walking faster. In other words, he or she must walk at a pace that is just right for him or her without worrying about what other people think.
Therefore, these three steps explain how easy it is for a person to walk and breathe at the same time. So if anybody thinks that it is not possible, then he or she should read this guideline and understand that anybody can do it as long as a person puts a positive attitude toward the activity.

Explanation

I wrote this procedure based on how I conduct myself when I walk and breathe. I used these three steps because these are the steps that I think everybody uses for everyday activities, but the procedure it also used to help people who think that it is not possible to walk and breathe at the same time.

While writing this procedure, I went into detail on the three steps to illustrate how walking is conducted and how breathing is done. Basically, I used a little scientific explanation to show how it is conducted for each step.

With the description of each step, a person can get a better understanding of how the human body functions. Therefore, walking and breathing should be easy for a person who walks for exercise.

COMM 337- Chp. 1 The Journalist's Craft

Chapter 1 has some important things that I use as a professional writer. for instance, the six questions on pg. 3-4 go into a good discussion on how a reporter should use the questions. Also, the section about the lead is very important because it describes how and when a reporter should use the inverted pyramid, but also learn to use the basic news story format writing.

Finally, accuracy is very important because a reporter must spell names correctly, use numbers and names of streets, etc. Therefore, these few tips are what can help me be a professional writer and end up writing a good story for people to read and get an idea of what is happening in society.

COM 317- Code of Ethics Clinton and Obama

The negative things about the videos is that on an ad for Hillary Clinton, they used a quote from Harry S. Truman instead of using a quote in which Hillary Clinton is speaking to the people. Also, her opponent, Barack Obama's ad failed to have his voice speaking many times because he only spoke once during the entire ad about the people of the U.S.

Both ads tend to use good advocacy because both candidates sounded honest about fixing the U.S. economy and they both oppose the war in Iraq and want to bring the troops home.

Aristotle vs. Maslow- COM 317

Maslow's self- actualization is defined as making a person design his or her own lifestyle. For example, if a person purchases a product because he or she likes it, then Malsow would say that the person who bought it can develop his or her own image based on what the product is that captures his or her interests.

However, Aristotle believes that a good life is when a person develops something on his or her own and uses it to the fullest extent. Basically, if a person learns something on his or her own, then he or she should stick with it and not go out a purchase something that can ruin his or her image around others.

I think attaining self- actualization depends on a person's attitude and how they view life in general, but also decide whether or not they feel that they need to purchase a pair of shoes just to fit in with the "in crowd."
